That’s the uncomfortable truth about the King’s shadow.
It doesn’t show up as cruelty. It doesn’t announce itself with raised voices or obvious abuse of power.
It arrives dressed as competence. As certainty. As responsibility. As I’ve already thought this through.
And it can feel, from the inside, almost exactly like leadership.
This week I’m writing about the shadow side of the King archetype — what Jung called the Tyrant, how it operates beneath the surface, and why the most dangerous version of it is the one that genuinely believes it’s being fair.
If you’ve ever caught yourself leading a conversation that was already decided, or noticed the room around you getting quieter than it should be, or felt the grip of control tighten exactly when things felt most uncertain — this one is for you.
The shadow doesn’t integrate through shame. It integrates through honest examination.
